A long forgotten method of counting the days and seasons in ancient times, the Mayan Calendar has recently re-emerged as a source of fascination, curiosity, controversy and even fear. The primary reason for its re-appearance in the public consciousness is the apparent significance of the impending date of December 21st 2012, seen by many as the day foretold by the Mayans to be Judgement Day, or the day on which the world will end.
The Mayans are an indigenous people of Central America, residing mainly around the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico. They were a leading race of people in the early part of this millennium and architectural discoveries show them to be an advanced, cultured and creative people. Their pictorial alphabet and other drawings that survive have been interpreted and much about the Mayans is known prior to the Spanish conquest of Central America.
Among the systems that we now understand from the Mayans was their calendar, which was very advanced and shows an excellent understanding of the movements of the sun, moon and changes in the seasons. It is incredibly accurate, in certain cases even more so that calendar systems that emerged centuries later.
The Mayan Calendar consists of three time periods that could be viewed almost as three dials on the same watch, each relating to a longer time scale. Specifically, the Long Count relates to very long periods of time, covering thousands of years. The Haab covers a period very similar to a standard 365 day year. And the Tzolkin covers approximately a fortnight. Each of these are finite counting systems so at certain times arrive at starting/ finishing points, similar to our New Year’s Day or the first day of a new century or millennium.
The Mayans were a superstitious people and the end of one of these cycles, called a Calendar Round, which is approximately every 52 years, was seen as an unlucky time and one during which the Mayans sought to avoid doing anything that might bring disaster or tragedy upon them. It was considered a very unlucky time to be born.
Why December 21st 2012 is now so much in the news and popular discussion is that it represents the starting/ finishing point of an even greater cycle, the Long Count (see above). It is the first time in the history of a calendar system dating back over 5,000 recorded years when the Long Count will return to zero. Some have suggested on this basis that the Mayans are thus forecasting the end of time, or of life as we know it. Can this be true? Only time will tell..

Our Fears
On December 21, 2012, The ancient Mayans and many other ancient civilizations have predicted the end of the world as we know it and the beginning of difficulties that modern humans have never seen before. War and disease on epic scales as well as fake vaccination efforts against diseases that are not only fabricated, but fabricated by the very governments that we thing are here to protect us. A good example of this is the swine flu pandemic presently sweeping the world. Worldwide starvation will be the biggest problem with up to 85 percent of society starving to death with people eating dogs and cats and possible eating each other. The possibility is horrible and the chance of escaping this is inevitable. It will only be a matter of how does one deal with this and how does the family unit remain, in a society where people are going to be eating other people!
The greatest fear we could obviously face for 2012 would be the specter of a nuclear holocaust on a worldwide scale. From this there could be no escape. Each person worldwide will be affected immediately and in the near future through starvation, drought, physical violence, disease and insanity. A further even worse scenario would be played out when some of the survivors would have little to no food. A mom and dad would not be able to get enough food to go around so they and grandma and grandpa would go without and possibly die of starvation so that the kids could have what little food to eat to sustain their little stomachs and it gets much worse. When food scraps run out mom and dad may have to cook grandma and grandpa so that the kids have something to eat, and pray that the kids never find out what they had eaten! This changes the family dinner into some sort of insane gathering.
We also have the fear of how our children would view the world and how they would make it to adulthood or if they would even want to become adults. What kind of a world would their be left to show them and teach them about?
Our Hopes
We hope for world domination. We pray for world peace. We beg for world acceptance and all of the while we are looking for a future that we ourselves have not created. We assume that the government will take care of our needs, but the government only takes care of itself! We have lived with a fantasy land mindset while our society continually gets worse and hide behind ‘closed doors’. The world in our house nearly the opposite of the world beyond our front door.
The people who speak publicly about 2012 paint a sinister picture of 2012. The researchers tell us about things like earthquakes, typhoons and 1 mile high tsunami’s. They speak of war and genocide. Many of the researchers also inform us of worldwide food shortages and massive worldwide starvation in the near future. We hope that they are wrong but what they are saying is what we are observing in the world around us year after year.
Our Dreams
As a result of our own observations, we know that our dreams can only happen if we can fix the world around us but we know that people are to selfish to change and that is why this horrible thing MUST happen to us! This dream is not going to be a good one but will happen to shake up our society and force changes to occur. 2012 will surely start out as an apocalypse with natural disasters and human conflict and grief on a worldwide scale. It would be wise for us to stop trying to prevent the inevitable and simply plan for it.
It IS going to happen and you need to get prepared.
If you knew for an absolute fact that a disaster was coming that could not be averted but that if you prepared ahead for it you would be alright, then you surely would do it. This is what I recommend to you because what is coming has been on its way for thousands of years. This is not a pigment of our imagination as even Jesus in the bible mentioned guarding it, until it burns. The 2012 prophesy has been researched by many scholars who have all come to the same conclusion that it will happen but can be prepared for by those who are aware of it. Mayan Calendars

The Mayans created several calendars, and the one that people are referring to when they say “Mayan Calendar” concerning the December 21, 2012 date is the long count calendar. This calendar looks at the long term rhythms of the universe. The Mayans see time like a river. The Mayans also see changes in time as differences of tones, frequencies or even octaves, not just a hard measurement of something that never changes.
It takes a long time for the calendar to go through one cycle. The shorter of the long count cycles are approximately 5,000 years and the longest is 26,000 years which coincides with the galactic alignment that happens once every 26,000 years.
Eastern Indian teachings refer to these cycles as “yugas” of which there are four. At this time Earth is leaving the Kali yuga, considered a dark yuga where pain, suffering, and destruction are the energies which Earth must travel through during this yuga. Yugas are like seasons, and the Kali yuga could be considered winter on an energy level.
The Mayan long count calendar has 13 moons, months. It also has 360 days as opposed to the 365 days of the Gregorian calendar that we use today. It is considered more accurate than the 365 day Gregorian calendar. There was also a 584 day Venus cycle calendar that was used and maintained. Another Mayan calendar is an 819 day calendar that not much is known about because many of the records about it were destroyed. The Tzolkin calendar is a 260 day calendar with 20 specific days with specific names each month, of which there were 13 months.

Judging by what killed many species many years ago, and the sign of the stars aligned in order, don’t you think is time for another earth renewal phase? Are we going to experience something catastrophic as the dinosours and other extinct species did? Why many humans think the earth can tolerate anything and is strong enough to keep up and keep us like that forever? A change will be executed, must be executed and I think we are still lucky that the earth hasn’t proceed yet comparing with the dinosaur era which was less damaged, peaceful, instinct oriented and less polluted!

I get so sick of those, but something in the news got me thinking about the Mayan Calendar again. The Hadron Collider is being prepared to run again in October of this year. The article I read said that it may take a few years to get it fully functioning. A few years equates to roughly 2012? Coincidence?
I know they say the atom smasher is completely safe, but who’s to say for sure it won’t be the Armageddon Machine for us all?

Will the world end in December 2012? If you believe in the people who interpret the Mayan calendar as a prophecy, then the answer would be yes. There is just one thing that people need to know. The Mayan predictions do not actually say that the world will end in December 2012. What it says is that there will be a major transformation, a shift in the way things are on our planet. There are people who are saying that it is all metaphorical while there are some who are claiming that a literal change will happen to the earth. Something devastating, but very significant to man’s evolution. An end to the world as we know it. And the thought comes of will there be any survivors?
So what can we expect from in December 2012 if the Mayan calendar was talking about a literal shift? Everything that the movie 2012 depicted and more. There will be earthquakes brought about by volcanic eruptions and movement of the earth’s surface. There will be widespread tidal waves and tsunamis that will wipe out entire villages. There will be storms and hurricanes that are several times more powerful than Katrina. There will be death, destruction and chaos everywhere That is, if messages of the prophets of doom are true.
Why should we even give importance to the Mayans? What qualifies them to make such a prediction? If you must know, the Mayan civilization is one of the greatest that ever existed. They were great thinkers who made great discoveries about the nature of the earth and the universe. They were scientists and philosophers who loved knowledge and who sought the truth with passion. This is the reason why the Mayans and their accomplishments matter. And this is also the reason why some scholars believe that the Mayan predictions should not be ignored.
It is really hard to say whether there will be a major catastrophic event in December 2012. But as many people are saying, better safe and ready than sorry. We should always be prepared for disasters such as earthquakes, storms and flooding.
